UP heritage SD70ACe's

how would i paint the MoPac, Wp and the KATY heritage unit [?][^]

With an airbrush, paint and masking tape.

Huh, I never made the connection. Thanks Mr. Obvious, you’re a life-saver!

Ask an incredibly open ended question, get an incredibly open ended answer. All the units were painted with non-standard paints, with custom graphics, and are one of a kind on uits which are not offered currently. Unless somebody comes out with decals in the next fifteen minutes its going to be an entirely custom job of kitbashing the engines, the colors and mixing and matching a half dozen different decal sets from several scales.

The serious answer is, he’s going to have to get pictures and figure it out himself, and then use a lot of masking tape to make the models.

I stand by my original answer.

Amen to that, Dave. Or he can wait until Overland/Tower55 releases their models…

You really don’t need to do all the intricate paint work. Start with a good digital image of each side, the nose and the tail of the unit you want and use the computer to create decals to cover the entire unit. I know MR has had an article about this technique in the past for freight cars so it should work for creating a 1 off locomotive scheme.

I’m planning on making the Olympic Torch Relay SD70M # 2001 which appeared out here three times! I’ve never seen the Salt Lake 2002 loco, so until I see and get plenty of shots of it, I won’t make one. I too wouldn’t mind making the Heritage units, so I will also read these tips. Just one thing, where the hell do you find an SD70ACe??

I do not believe that there is a model in production right now. Tower 55 a new plastic division of Overland is planning on producing all of the heritage units. The first ones are scheduled to be released sometime in spring '06.

Tower 55 will be producing all the heritage ACES
