UP IS EVERYWERE! (Sorta...in some form or another

Even though its not a pure Union Pacific owned Locomotive…it still brings to mind the immensity and size of UP power…

I keep telling my freinds when I send them this Picture in AIM

“God D**mit! You can’t even go to BRAZIL without seeing a Union Pacific Locomotive!!!”

haha thats kinda funny up is everywhere

If you look carefully, you will note that the locomotive is running on narrow gauge and meter gauge track.
Look in the foreground, and you can see that the tracks are dual gauge…meter on the outside rail, and narrow gauge with the inside rail.
We shipped them that locomotive, along with a bunch of former BN C30-7, and send them at least three to five NREX rebuilds a week, and lots of MRS rebuilds, everything from Santa Fe, BN to old Conrail and NS…we just shipped a pair of NS B23s to them…

They cast and manufacture their own narrow gauge trucks.

On the SD40-2s, they remove the three axle trucks, and install four, two axle trucks, an BB-BB truck set, for a 8 axle locomotive, not only better on the narrow gauge, but even increases the useable horsepower and traction.
This requires them to fabricate extensions on the front and rear porches, and install a long extension on the drawbar to get the extra truck under the frame.

Whats is really weird is seeing a Dash 9 on narrow gauge trucks, it looks like it should fall over on the first curve.

As of last month, they have purchased over 400 second hand locomotives from NREX, MRS, and Helm.

A friend of mine in Brazil is a big time rail fan, and because he is in the military, he has extra access to a lot of their stuff…he sends me photos all the time, I have one of a ex DRGW SD40-2 on the four trucks you would be amazed at how they have adapted the second hand rebuilds into a major fleet.

Ed

Any way we can see them Ed?

so how do they ship a locomotive? would you just pick it up and throw it in a boat in one piece or disassemble it and load it up?

They stack them…side by side, then a adjustable deck, next layer…they have a crane like the ones used for containers.

E mail me at
renaissance-man@sbcglobal.net, and I will send you some photos.
I have no way to post them here.

Ed

+Ed: Thanks, that is really pretty interesting,

Theres no UP in Maine :frowning:
However I believe on rare occasions UP units have been on CSX run-thrus to Portland.

UP engines have been showing up in BNSF consists in the L.A. area. This is in addition to the UP detour trains on BNSF.Maybe the Borg is flexing its muscles again[:(!]!

No UP in Alaska or Hawaii either.[;)]

saw 2 ex up locomotives now hlcx leasers going west on csx on 2 diffrent trains.
stay safe
Joe

Here are the pics Ed sent me. I hope I got em all. I keep getting distracted.[banghead]
