UP Locomotives

well UP now has their heritage Rio Grande loco out i think, because i was on railpictures.net and it was heading towards(undertow) somewhere in IL, so has anybody else seen it yet!!! also why is it UP is the only railroad the supports its history like it does?

They are not. The FEC repainted a GP40-2 in what was there 1940’s Eunit / Funit / GP7 / 9 paint sceme for there 100th aniversery. While the colors were worn by early gp’s it was a hold over from there passenger paint scheme. This was a very elaborate paint scheme and they also renumbered her to 2000 for the new Milinium. UP is just getting the press right now. Other railroads have done this as well. They are not the first just the latest. Not all heritage units are fallen flags.

Even though the UP has made the biggest deal and effort to do a Heritage Fleet (the SD70ACe’s, Their Steam, E units ect.), they’re not the only ones. Norfolk Southern has an EMD GP59 painted in the Southern Green and White scheme. IMO, one classy looking unit! And Santa Fe could be added as well, remember when they brought back the Warbonnet? Also, Canadian Pacific keeps a SOO unit in fresh SOO paint and has a GP38-2 in fresh D&H paint. And let’s not forget BNSF, who’s H1 and H2 paint schemes payed homage to GN. To bad they messed up with the Nike Swoosh…

Actually UP is a copy cat…[:p][:p][:p]

The New Haven never owned either of the following. CDOT caught on in the 1980’s and adopted the McGInnis scheme.

The follow New Haven FL-9’s were repainted New Haven by CDOT at the insistance of NHRHTA members and it caught on as seen in the pics above and the one below of a FL-9 of which all 60 were originally NH…

The FL-9 pic is of the Metro-North sponsored Farewell to the FL-9 excursion… Oddly enough they are still in service almost daily despite the farewell.

I think I saw the same picture you did. Has UP set a date for the presentation?

i dont know if they did that yet, however just a couple days ago the unit was on its way to chicago

Here are some examples of FEC’s unit’s with the historic scheme and a gp40 before and after…I know how much you guys love pic links. Ha Ha #1 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=58234 #2 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=32800 #3 http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=34742 # 1 should be the orginal scheme on a museum E9 unit without the cats whiskers # 2 should be a GP40 in the plain blue scheme # 3 shold be the GP40 #2000 in a retro-heritage scheme. They have other units I am still looking to find a good photo to post. Behind the blue GP40 is a Ex-UP yellow and grey SD40-2 lettered and hearalded for FEC. This is how a railroad with some class does a “patch” job. All UP letters and marks were painted over to match existing paint first. If you can’t paint it all now at least "patch " it nice till you can. No spray cans here.[wow][:-^][yeah]

CP has a GP38-2 and some F’s painted in the classic maroon/yellow/gray scheme for excursion service.

it’d be awesome if CP brought back a geep in Milwaukee Road colors. i’ve seen a lot of bandits when i was in St. Paul, and i’d love to see a milwaukee road locomotive on the rails again
