UP Low Nose GP7/9's?

I seem to recall pictures of Union Pacific GP 7’s or GP9’s rebuilt to low nose versions similar to GP20’s but cannot find a photographic record anywhere on the net if it actually occurred. Did this actually happen? I think Proto do a model of a Geep with a low nose but does it have a prototype?

Thanks in anticipation from Australia

Trevor

Trevor the reason you can’t find any photos of Union Pacific chopped nose GP7s or GP9s is because there weren’t any. There were some motive power fleets that UP took over that had those type of units, but I don’t recall any of them being repainted into UP colors. C&NW, MP and SP come to mind on that. Anyone else?

SP and Cotton Belt had the only factory low nosed geep nines, chopping became popular in later years. UP did however convert several GP7’s to so called Omaha Geeps with the addtion of turbochargers but the full hood height remained in all cases

And MKT had chop nosed GP7s, but I don’t think any of those got repainted to UP either.

UP did reactivate some Katy geep sevens around 1984 during a power shortage, all remained in MKT green/yellow never to receive UP colors.
