I was just hired by UP in train service. I start my training on Monday. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Thanks.
Congrats and welcome to the family. [:)]
Safety First, live it and go home each day.
What area will you be working?
Thanks for the message Jim. I will based out of St.Paul, MN. I am excited to start my new life but a little apprehensive about time away from the family. I was a Northwest Airlines mechanic for 18+ years but lost my job due to a strike and replacement workers. So I am thankful to God to be starting a new career. I am so new to the world of trains, I have a lot to learn. I will be checking this site regularly for advice from people who are experienced RR’s.
CONGRATS on the new job. But I got to ask how’d you get in cause I applied well over a year ago for the same job here in wisconsin. But I never got a message or a phone call saying. I got the job or not so can you give me some tips on how I might beable to get in with the railroad.
A few years ago while waiting for our train, a group of new hires on break asked my engineer if he had any advice. He told them, “Run while you still can.” The MTO, standing nearby just shook his head.
Seriously, good luck. Did you ever get down to the Boone & Scenic Valley? If you have, I think we’ve met there a few times.
Jeff
Is that you Tim?
