UP "Safety First" Togs for the Fashionable.

The latest in “Safety First” clothing for the well dressed UP switchman.

Jim

Why not? Makes them easier to see=safer. Doubt though if they are UPRR issued. Probably the switchman did it themself. The ones I saw or spoke to in Ogden/Griver/Evanston were wearing “normal” togs. [:o)][:D]

I’ll concede that they are a bit garish but anything that makes it easier for you to be seen is worth wearing. That being said, I find it difficult to envision Ed wearing something like this down in Houston.

I posted this with the hope that some might get a nice chuckle out of it
this morning. In talking with the forman, he replied to my question about
the togs with something like; well you got to dress right if you’re working
for circus UP. Anyway it put a smile on my face.

Jim

And just what color vest for the new-hires will stand out against that?

I think the fashion conscious, safety minded, new hire would compliment the outfit with either an international orange or lime colored vest making it a truly “Safety First” outfit.

Jim

Takes me back to the 60s, and all the psychedelic colors!! But the workers
do stand out, and can be seen.

I can see it now;
Conductor to engineer; Hey we just went past a red,uh no make that yellow ?signal.
Oh heck!! I’m not sure what color it was;maybe paisley,or polka dot!!![%-)][sigh]

are flowers in your hair optional? [:p]

Given the propensity for many railfans to dress up like their heros, God help us if those “work clothes” become THE standard for well dressed T&E personnel.

I can see it now. Deadheads setting up their tie die stands, just behind the line at every run-by.

Jay

Only if you are going to,or work in San Francisco.[:D]

Crew calling signals ----

“UP Train (insert favorite ID); flashing paisley over chartruse West End of Flower Power.”

So Ed, where are yours?

Adrianspeeder

Looks like Day-Glo Camo.

A: I am not old enough to wear baggy britches…I still wear pants.
B: Ask Mookie about the naked switchman…
C: I dont work for UP.
D: Dude, like I am going to admit having anythig left that’s tie dyed![8D]

Ed

Wait a minute- Item A You mean you are way to OLD to wear baggy britches. I would also imagine having a belt holding the pants just a few inches above the knees would make it kind of tough to get on a car.

Jay

Yeah, but the plumber crack makes a convenient holster for your radio!

Ed

Naked switchmen - I am not even going to touch that…

(Poor Ed…icky!)

Ed, I bet your wife would like it. And I bet your daughters would laugh at you…

Adrianspeeder

Ed —

Eauw!!! (But I suppose that would be handy![:p])

But where would a naked switchman put his list? Nevermind. I don’t want to know.
