UP Shield on Steam Tender

There was a post a few days ago asking about whether UP ever put its “shield” on a tender as depicted on IHC Locos. Well, I had never seen a photo with one until I found this one! It’s on #9000’s vanderbilt tender. Whether the logo was used on other tenders, I don’t know, but it’s possible!

nice picture.

interesting loco

I have also seem pictures of a UP 4-6-2 in a museum I want to say in Spokane Washington, that also has the shield on the tender. But its a later “Union Pacific Railroad” herald, (Perhaps a UP supplied decal?) rather than the correct “Overland Route” hareld.

I did a little research and found a lot of photos of UP steam and none had the UP herald on them. Found also engine in question and again no herald, only UNION PACIFIC in white letters on the tender. Of coarse this is not to say the herald wasn’t used, just not any photos I could find. I used www.rr-fallenflags.org Ken
