UP Signaling System

I am curious as to what signaling system was being used by the UP on the railroad from Odgen to Evanston during the late forties, early fifities?

Thanks for any info provided.

Mike

I have a commercial videotape (Steam Over Sherman) that covers the time frame you’re asking about and the signals in use there were the single and double lower quadrant types identical to those used intil recently on the ex SP line between Wees Calif and Ashland Or

How would I go about acquiring a copy of this video?

Sounds like the information would be very helpful.

Thanks

The video “Steam Over Sherman” was produced by WB Video. When I tried wbvideo and wb video nothing came up relating to RRs so they might no longer be in buisness. You might try the adds in Trains for book and video dealers (don’t forget the classifieds in the back). It was made in conjunction w/ the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club so you might have some luck w/ them

That was the second link on my Google search:

Automatic Block Signals (ABS) under Rule 251, direction of movement, double track – trains proceed on signal indication needing only a clearance card to depart the initial terminal. UP had only three-aspect signaling at this time in most locations (red, yellow, and green), using multiple heads to provide route signaling.

Both US&S Style B lower-quadrant semaphores and color-lights were in use, depending on where you were. If you go to a good library that has old volumes of Railway Signal Engineer, and look through the annual summaries, you can determine exactly where and when what type of signal was installed on this line.
