UP Smoking Policy

I am taking a HR Management class and while I was reading my text, I noticed a story which stated that UP does not hire anyone who is an active smoker. Is this true or not? I am sure we have some UP folks around here and who better to ask.

I don’t know about the actual hiring practices (you might try looking at the company website), but I can tell you that smoking anywhere on company property (indoors, outdoors, in cabs, in company vehicles) is a rule violation. They’re pretty good about offering quit-smoking programs to employees. But not quite as good at enforcing the rule, sadly.
