UP Steamer 844 was also in Omaha this weekend.

Greetings,

Even though most of the buzz has been about the UP “Heritage” units unveiled in Omaha this past weekend another UP ambassabor made a homecoming. UP #844 is back under steam and running after spending 6 years being rebuilt. The #844 looked awesome in a jet gloss black paint. #844 came eastbound from Cheyenne, WY on July 27-28, 2005. When #844 had green signals it ran 60-70 mph with its short train. Made for some tough chasing. Thank god for alot of other trains on the line occasionally slowing down Steve Lee and the #844.

Here are some photos of #844 coming eastbound.

The above two images show #844 steaming up at the Cheyenne, WY roundhouse. The Cheyenne roundhouse is home to the UP Steam Program.

The above 3 photos show #844 just east of Cheyenne, WY passing Campstool Road.

#844 and train west of Sidney, WY

Very nice platform Observation car on the rear of the train. Great place to watch the world and trains go by.

Even #844 runs into traffic. Just west of Sidney, WY 844 is stopped behind a stopped double-stack train.

Just as 844 gets on the move again it meets a westbound train.

Back up to speed #84

Amazing that you got shots of the 844 without people in the way. Durring the Frontier Days in Cheyenne, we were one crossing up from where they took the 3985 off the train. I didn’t know there could be that many people in a photo![:D]

Actually at any given time there were probably only about 20-25 people actually chasing #844 during the trip. Of course as the train got closer to towns more people would be trackside. Also having the UP tracks almost parallel Hwy 30 the entire way helps.

Great shots Keith, Thanks for sharing them.[8D]

No wounder why she was hauling A$$ down the Main line at over 75MPH,Just look at the size of her Driving Wheels. Holy smokes. Allan.

Great pics, Awesome!!!
