I have an un-dated steel UP box car that I’d like to date for the early to mid 1950s. If I did would that be correct for that type car?. It appears to have the basic markings of UP cars of that period.

Here is what I think of as a typical 40’ UP boxcar paint scheme that would have run in the 1950s, this one being built in 1936 and preserved in the Orange Empire Railroad Museum (and the photo is from their website)

In the early fifties you would still see a fair number of 40’-50’ 1930’s steel boxcars that would say “SERVES ALL THE WEST” on one side, and “Route of the STREAMLINERS” on the other side too.
