UP trackage rights

Looking at the UP map, there are trackage rights south from Colorado to Amarillo and on to Lubbock and DFW. Were these rights granted based on the BN and ATSF merger?

Does UP run coal trains down those lines? The UP train map in Nov 2001 shows the line south to Pueblo runs 27 trains with no lines beyond that. That is a lot of trains terminating in Pueblo.

Coal and merchandise moving on south via BNSF?

Ed-

SP picked up those rights from the BN + ATSF merger. Apparently it consists mostly of Colorado coal going to Texas along with some soda ash and grain.

Could the 27 trains per day between Denver and Pueblo include all UP and BNSF traffic ?

That could be…although I thought at one time there was more traffic on that line. Looking at the map, they do show the CSX traffic on the Chicago Woodlawn Jct segment, although it is more than 15 per day.

BTW I ordered my copy of July 2004 so I will be up to date on the UP maps.
