By now everyone probably heard of the infamous “Triple 7”, or 777, the leased Canadian Pacific AC4400 that was used in the movie “Unstoppable”. I always wondered if there was a railroad that had a Triple 7, so I did a search. I found two: CSX Corp (ex-Conrail SD70MAC) 777, and now, a Geep 7 from Union Pacific, unit 777. I still sholuld do another backround, but most models are based on real locomotives and have real numbers, so it’s got a 90% chance of being right…still can’t believe it.
Ah, nuts. No luck. Apparently, UP never had a Geep 7 numbered 777. Still, if anyone wants the link to the locomotive, let me know. I don’t know how long the auction is. STILL not trying to sell a locomotive.
UP had an SD7 numbered 777. They owned 10 units, numbered from 775-784.

I’m not sure this topic needs to really be drawn out any further, but there’s also:
GN 777 4-8-0 class G-4
BN 777 F9B
BNSF 777 C44-9W
That’s quite a range of locomotives. Surprisingly, 777’s are not common. NP didn’t have any, SP&S didn’t, UP didn’t have any in steam and GN didn’t have any in diesel.

Here’s what I found, take a look:
there should be about 56 pictures, some of which are of the filming of unstoppable.
Cheers,

OK it isn’t diesel, but Nickel Plate had a Berkshire numbered 777. I mention it only because it is my avatar.
I found two for CSX.
