UP VO1000 Color of trucks

I’ve got a Stewart VO1000 from Union Pacific. In contrast to all other UP diesels the trucks are plastic black.

Is that correct or should they be silver or light gray as UP usually does? I wonder if I should paint them light gray, silver or do nothing.

The engine has a road number of 1200. I could not find a picture of that or any other UP VO1000 engine. The number 1200 leads to a GP38-2. I assume the number became reused.

Reinhard, here is a link to Union Pacific Baldwin Diesel pictures. Looks like they painted the trucks silver.

One book I have says a road # of DS1200 and another says 1055, both the same loco built in 10/1943.

Also, here is a link to another forum that discusses Baldwin, Lima, Hamilton products, maybe you can post your question there and get more info.

I don’t know what color the trucks were when the Baldwin’s were first delivered but I can tell you I saw a freshly shopped VO-1000 in Taylor Yard in 1966 and the trucks were bright silver. As long as you’re modeling in the 60’s, I think it’s pretty safe to say all UP locomtives had silver trucks. I really hated it when UP went to gray. [xx(]

Thank you. I painted them silver.
