UP vs. CSX

If you would please list the advantages and disadvantages of both of these railroads. PLEASE dont hold anything back. Tell it all, but tell the truth.

Totally different cultures and markets.

duh. i know that i just want to know what makes one better than the other.

20/20 Hindsight

Cliff Note version;

UP–arrogance (probably a 50/50 split between being an advantage/disadvantage)

CSX–inferiority complex (maps show a better North/South and NY/Chicago route but the quarterly/annual results show NS with better financials every time).

Both railroads are o.k., but I would have to choose CSX as the better, UP seems to have a lot of financial problems here lately. CSX seems to be getting in better shape as time goes along, especially after they sold CSX World Terminals to Dubai Ports Authority, they got a lot of money out of that. They said they would put that money into upgrading the railroad.

CSX uses much more blue paint than UP. That’s the biggest difference.

Man, that is EASY!!

One of them sucks, the other doesn’t [}:)]

Scenic with different views available. Mountains, deserts, cities for the UPRR. I guess what I am saying is the Western US is far prettier then the Eastern US. As a example in Oregon about 25 miles east of Portland you can get pixs of the UPRR/Columbia River & the 5th largest waterfall in the US. You know Yellowstone & Glacier parks. Mts Hood, Ranier so on & so forth. The west has the east beat hands down & I live on the Atlantic coast [:o)][:p][:)]

UP is more out west in the desert, where CSX has more mountainous scenic views. UP is an entirely bigger system. Although, CSX is a large one too. At one time, UP and CSX had ideas of merging. The plan hasn’t been approved yet. Another thing is that UP mostly uses wide noses for freight and standard noses for intermodal(doublestacks). Where CSX is the total opposite. UP has been in business also since 1861 and CSX has only since 1983. UP was originally part of the “transcontinental railroad”. Which linked the east with the west. Central Pacific was the linker of the east. UP of the west. They ran into each other near St. Louis.

]H’mm your history recollectopn needs a tad of updating.

The UPRR started in Omaha NE & the CPRR started in Sacremento Ca & the meeting place was Promontory UT (see my web site). Thanks though for trying to rewrite history. [:o)][:p]
