UP Wreck-Texarkana,Tx-10/15/05

This AM Fox News reported [with some film] that there was a rear end collision at Texarkana, Tx this morning about 8 am…The film showed a fire resulted from the explosion of a fuel storage tank along the r.o.w. area. There were no details as to crew injuries. Only that a freight origined in Chicago had rear-ended another train at that location. Anyone have further details?

Fixed the date. Thanks.

I presume you mean today not 08/15/05. So far CNN is more interested in the Iraq elections then a train wreck in the USA[:(]

I heard on the radio this morning (while railfanning) that a tankcar of vinyl acetate was burning.

CNN is now reporting that fire is under control but at least several structures in the area were destroyed by fire. Sounds pretty serious.

USA Today’s update

Its sue time again.

Propylene, not vinyl acetate – although there may have been some vinyl acetate residue in one of the other cars. Still makes a h___ of a blaze. But at least it (propylene) isn’t toxic (well, no more than any smoke) unlike vinyl acetate.

Everyone seems to have done a very good job so far – except for the collision itself. And be thankful there that from I’ve heard no one got hurt.
