Upcoming photo trip: Northshore Mining

I’ll be making a trip to Silver Bay, MN in the late spring to photograph the Northshore Mining (former Reserve Mining) railroad. I’ll get some shots inside Silver Bay itself at the ore dock, but I’d be more interested in getting someplace out west of town along the ROW. If anyone has any information on the Northshore’s operation, I’d certainly appreciate it.

They usually run a loaded train between 10:30/11:30 in the morning. Your best bet is to hang out by the Highway 11/2/5 overpass at I believe MP 23 and listen to radio chatter. I seem to recall a southbound train running around noon. Once in Silver Bay, if the locomtovies dont need servicing, its about an hour to reposition the train for departure. Tailings trains also run, on a sporadic schedule I believe.

Perfect schedule for me - thanks!
