Update and yard plan (pictures of plan)

Well its been about a week since I posted last and nothing that exciting or interesting happened. I did however manage to get the lights pretty much where I wanted them on the lwer level, I did do some painting of handrails on buildings, and after taking off a lot of the buildings, and scenery off of the lower level I finally got those back on the layout. I’m in the process of clearing off the top layer of the layout and drawing up plans on how to run track.

Last night I drew up my yard. Now I have 12 feet long by 4 feet wide to work with but as I have been told 4 feet is a long reach specially as high as the layout is. So I shrunk the yar area it self to 2 feet wide by 12 feet long or should I say as long as i could make it. I id take pictures of the drawing so I hope it easy to see.

The other 2 feet will have a city type setting without any switching. There well be some track running through it due to the Train Elevator.

Measurements 1" = 12" (1 foot). Hope you can see the picture and any comments welcomed.

I have two pictures one with flash other without so maybe its easier to see.

Did you draw those turnouts to scale? Looks like they are taking up less space than I would guess–the angle of your yard ladder looks optimistically steep. Good luck with the yard!

I agree. Even with #4’s you will probably get less than half of the tracks you show in the space. If you are going to use pencil and paper, I suggest you invest in a track template.

I figure I’m going to cut down the turnouts like in the book by Kalmbach Freight yards. I have been toying with the yard all day long seeing what needs to be cut and were. If I need to go 3 feet in to the top layer thats fine just want to make it easier to get to being the top layer. Personally I am hoping to get to working on the first stage of the yard this weekend if it doesn’t turnout like in the plan, I figure its just a plan its not set in stone.

As for to scale, I’m using a CTT HO scale 1:12 track template so it should be to scale.

Looks like a great plan

it turned out to e a great plan after doing everything that I read. I can get a total of 6 tracks that includes th run around part for the ladder and maybe get a section for a caboose or two and even a rip track but not holding my breath on the rip track.

And when I stated the you planned it in pencil, you didn’t know what I was talking about.

Chip,
As usual I never know what people mean I’m always in my world or thinking how to improve what I did or what I’m going to do on the layout. So please be patient with me.
