UPDATE: Fed auditors critical of FRA PTC efforts

If the US House of Republicans haven’t gotten the message yet, this report isn’t going to do anything to add to the urgency the US is facing with a potential rail shutdown.

I’ve not really noticed anything in the mainstream media about this. Wondering what it’ll take to wake everyone up.

A railroad and government shut-down may be what it takes to make people ‘wake up’ to how ‘big brother’ is destroying the whole country !!!

Congress and the rest of government think they merely have to snap their fingers for things to get done. The trouble is, that doesn’t work. We have allowed the federal government to get big and dig its grimy fingers into everything. It has done nothing but stymie creativity and advancement. The best thing that could happen in regard to PTC would be to get the government out of the way and allow the railroads to advance it as necessary.

I thought GAO was the Government Accounting Office.

I would also put supporting implementation of PTC ahead of enforcement in light of the problems with getting FCC licensing for needed spectrum and antenna sites.

Don’t you think that over 20 years of development the industry would already have an interoperable PTC on passenger and hazardous materials routes and the FRA could have required it without excuses or are they part of the problem? Will the industry ever see PTC or will the FRA continue to cooperate with further delay, delay, delay as they have been doing?

PTC seems to me to be similar to ATC for airline industry. How long did it take to implement ATC; it is also very labor intensive and takes a lot of capital. And one more thing, it is government owned and operated.
