Looks like it’s been worth the wait…and TTE states that they will be shipping it out THIS Friday! [tup] I bought mine from another Internet retailer, but I’m sure I’ll be receiving it in short order. Lookin’ forward to it…[:D]
Tom
Woohoo! [:D] I checked the NCE web site tonight and the NEW PowerCab is close to being shipped out [tup]:
I’ve been chompin’ at the bit to get one since early December. But I don’t mind waiting till all the bugs have been worked out first. Hopefully soon…[:-^]
It’s an exciting time of year, even for me. Although I have had a “finished” layout for eight months now, I have just received a refurbished (returned?) NYC S1b, and had to do my trouble spot on the tracks all over again…a la Challenger. Then the Challenger wouldn’t play. Finally got them both to give in before I went on a much needed run this aftenoon.
Tom, you must be excited, ready for a big upgrade? [:D][8D] Inquiring minds want to know which CV gets changed first, and which loco is the candidate?
It’s gotta be the BLI Mike and probably the startup voltage. (Is that CV03?). I want to see if I can’t get that thing to crawl out of the new freight station (seen below) I just put together::
It starts out much too abruptly. At 40% power, it’s crusin’ around the layout - I mean lickity split! [:0]
Crandell, I’m glad you fixed the problem spot on your layout. So…when are we gonna see pics of your NYC S1b?
Tom, I wish I had a decent camera (digital), but it is trains or a good camera. I’ll take some pix with my trusty Pentax and post them when I get the film developed.
CV 2 is the Start Voltage, CV 3 is inertia (acceleration), and CV 4 is momentum (time to stop from a given speed). I have found that between 35 - 40 gives a good V-Start, and I set both 3 and 4 to between 120 and 140. With those values for CV’s 3 and 4, it is a bit fast for prototypical starts, but a good compromise until you get better at estimating how long it will take to clear a switch or crossover from start, or to stop just past a switch from speed a certain distance away. It will be great fun learning how a Mike comes alive for you.
BLI seems to set their chuff rate to go slow as the loco speeds, but my new K4s allows adjustment and I have it stuttering like a real loco at 50 mph. Maybe you can do that too, but your manual will tell you.
And, as you surely know, you can set your mid voltage and high voltage to control runaway locos at settings where it should only be doing 40 mph.
Thats good news Tom I hope whom ever you bought it from delivers it in a timly manner. I know you are most excited about this upgrade. I cant wait to see how it works for you.
Tony’s was really impressed by the looks of there review, There price on this sysyem was really good as well. I am curious now as to how well it compares to abilty of upgrade like the Digitrax system and how easy it is to use.
oh great ! another full featured , very reasonably priced starter set for people to argue over in all the ‘which dcc system should i buy’ threads [}:)]
