Well I finally installed lights in my Walthers Diesel Shop. after long thinking how I was going to install lights I remembered I had an item that wouldnt be noticable.
What I did was used an item that had been out on the market made by Cir-kit, its called tape wire.
Cut 4 pieces or wire tape to length.
installed 3 pieces runing from front to back of the shop.
Melted the coating ontop of the wire area of tape in 4 places.
Next I put solder on to the bare spots.
The last piece of tape wire I melted the adhesive off of the bottom of tape.
I installed the tape from left to right this acts as the power feeder to the other lines of tape.
I then took the soldering iron and melted the solder where i took off the adhesive and the coating.
I then soldered 12v 1.7mm bulbs by miniatronics which I installed there brass lamp shades over. I used a total of 9 bulbs.
I then soldered feeder wires to the feeder tape wire.
That looks terrific, Martin! [tup] Should be fairly easy to unsolder, too, when the lights need to be replaced. I’ll have to keep that wire tape in mind for some of my other projects…
Glad I could shine some light on this method to everyone. I bought the tape a yr ago and didnt think I would ever use it then I thought hmmmmm I wonder and now I’m going to replace the wiring in the backshop. carshop, and roundhouse with this stuff. Not a soon to be projects tho.
Thanks for all the compliments I like to read what others think hopefull more will comment.
Christ bringing up a Chanelier I used one made for a miniture dollhouse it fit nicely as a bank chandelier then again it only cost 9.99. I used it in Baileys Savings And Loans entered in a contest Walthers had locally and some jerk stole my power supply that Walthers was letting me use so I got nothing it looked great may have to dig up photos of that sometime.
Actually its for making circuit boards. You draw the lines on. I have paint that does the same thing but I prefer this tape method. I was not that impressed with the conductive paint or pen for light installations.
I am attempting a different approach to lighting the Diesel Shop. I’ve drilled a couple of small holes through the base near two of the vertical support beams. I am planning on gluing a 5/32" plastic tubing to each one and run them up and the horizontally along side of the roof trusses. Thus they will look like large conduit. I wanted to use 1/8" but I couldn’t get the wires in. Then I’ll cut the tubing where I want a light and use a 2.4mm bulb. I am thinking 4 lights, 2 on two different roof trusses. If I need more I can go to 3 runs with 2 lights each. I’ll post some pictures (if it doesn’t look too bad when I am done).
Jeff, I did something on that line in the backshop it worked out ok but then you have to deal with the tubes and wiring if you have to rerail a car inside the building. But please post a picture I hope yours looks better than my carshop does.
Ok, here are a couple of pictures. After looking at it and thinking about how I did it, I could have done better by bringing the tubing together and notching the joint so that I left a hole just big enough to bring the wires out for each light. Ohh well, I am satisfied with the results.
man, that shops really comin’ along. I just wish that they woulda done a better job on the inside walls with all those windows. Its not a knock on what youve done, its great. Just a jab at the manf. Can’t wait to see the crane if you ever fit one in. you gonna weather the floor, put people and parts and stuff inside?
Not sure on weathering yet and still thinking about the crane. Definelty add people, parts and such. I am also adding two Minatronics exterior flood lights to light the tracks leading up to the entrance. On the backside will be a gravel parking lot for employees to park their cars.
Well, keep the photos coming. I had the bachman enginehouse when it first came out and got totaly frustrated with it. Looking at your photos is giving me new ideas and inspiration.
