Update to HO Bachmann Old Time 4-4-0 Sound

I have updated my “what I did” to reflect the use of a Mabuchi # FF-030PA 08250 motor:

and a PDF at:

There are only nine pages in the PDF not ten as indicated.

I put a TCS decoder in mine and it works pretty good now. Actually better than new. This sound install is great and good to know about the motor. GREAT work, congrats.

Harold,

Very Impressive! I have one of those that I pickup on clearance at a Frank’s Nurseries(maybe 20 years ago). I am interested in doing the same thing. I also have an old Mantua ‘General’ that I would like to do something with. Getting ‘all wheel’ electrical pick-up is really needed for either of these - Thanks for great ‘how to’!

I think with the amount/size of that decoder coming up from the tender a custom made wood pile is required. Not sure how I would do it as you need the look of split wood with bark.

Also, it looks like he moved one of the rubber tires from the side to the back so that each side has a rubber tire on the drivers.

Haven’t got to the tender load, probably going maybe coal. It took 30 years since I bought my first 4-4-0 to get to this stage. This is what I did on the ill-fated OO/HO in the 1870’s venture:

Here is how I make bark:

The traction tires are on the back two drivers on the Bachmann 4-4-0.
