Back at the end of May I posted “Saying Goodbye” as I started to tear down a portion of my original layout which was at well over 10 years old. It was like saying goodbye to an old, but somewhat tired friend. I was able to recycle considerable portions of the old railroad - turnouts, structures, switch machines, along with some of the track, wires, and lumber. Well, I am happy to report that I have the new benchwork done, track and roadbed laid and the wiring is well under way. So far, I have only encountered 5 little issues that were easily corrected and this morning is cleanup day. As I have done this I have been thinking about my favorite and least favorite jobs associated with building a RR - I have decided I could build benchwork all day but when it comes to setting spikes, I need a good stiff drink. If I knew how to post a few pictures I would do that but so far, everything seems to be, and I hesitate to put it this way, falling into place.
So now you are saying “Hello”?
Sounds good, I hate the benchwork…I just want my table to be ready to build on…then the fun for me starts. ANd I HATE wiring!
I like to build building kits, and detail them, then super detail what I think to go on it. I was always a detail scenicker when I was a young’un with trains. I had a fielday with two 4x8 in an L shape to build/play on! When the scenery was “done”, I’d tear it out and re-do it!
Glad things are working for you!
Continue to tell us your progress.

Shame on you, Harold. You have been a member of these forums for over 6 years and you still don’t know how to post photos. [^o)]
Well, it’s time you learn. There are tons of threads on these forums that fully describe the process. It is no big deal. So, get going. We want to see some photos. [(-D]

I guess that we are all surprised that an old Forum hand like you don’t know how to Post photos, but you can easily learn. All photos must first be downloaded to a free Album in a Host ie. Photobucket Photobucket.com and establish a free account. Set up a MR dedicated Album. Download as many photos as you care to. Below each photo will appear four options. Click on the bottom IMG option. The word “Copied” will appear momentarily. (Or, go to the upper left Edit bar and click on “Copy”) Go to the Trains.com/Forums thread (or start your own)Type in any text and then click on “Paste” and the text and photo code will appear. Click on “Post” and the text and photo will appear. To make additions or corrections, Click on More and the Edit (in the box). To get back to your Album on Photobucket to make additions or corrections, type in “photobucket.com login”,and then click on “Image Hosting photo or video on PHOTOBUCKET”, Make your additions or corrections and then,“rePost”. I guess the excuse that I am a slow learner or that I don’t have a camera will no longer work. Thanks Bob - will get to work.

Thanks for leaving that excuse for me. Truth is, nothing I’ve done is particularly photogenic anyway. (The mental Photoshop covers a multitude of inadequacies…)
I can’t honestly say that there’s any phase of layout building that either inspires or discourages me. Benchwork assembly results in physically large structures that go up quickly, so it gives (not quite) instant gratification. Doing ANYTHING under the benchwork has negative aspects, so I’ve arranged to have all the complex parts along the aisleway just inside the fascia. Those are my take on the two extremes.
My main problem? To paraphrase Vince Lombardi:
Operation isn’t everything - it’s the ONLY thing.
Construction would be much farther along if I could pry my fingers off the throttle…
