Today I recieved an email from Accurail about them attending Trainfest. They will be there and they will have special Trainfest cars unfortunately they did not tell me wht type of cars they will be or road names so its going to b a surprize unless I find out in the next few days. I will try to keep everyone posted.
Maybe I am out of the loop on this one, but where and what is Trainfest?
Trainfests in Milwaukee Wi, on the State Fair grounds on November 11th and 12th 2007.
Its anannual train show hosted by the WISE division of the NMRA with support of other model railroad related companies and associates.
Theres layouts, vendors, some realy nice displays, Somethin new this year if I remember correctly there will be actual deminstrations, and Food and Drink vendors,
We have a similar one here in NE Ohio called Railfest - usually the 3rd weekend in March. I enjoy it. The vendors don’t like me as much, however, because I don’t spend much money.

Man I can’t wait till Sat, last year Accurail did some really nice 40ft GBW boxcars yellow with the Packers football on the side.
Ok I got an email from Accurail today heres what they are offering this year.
I’ve just updated our Trainfest page with our limited run TF cars.

Soo Line is an ACF covered hopper.
Milwaukee Road is a 40’ wood reefer
Green Bay & Western is a 50’ Steel Boxcar (single door)
Wisconsin Central is also a 50’ Steel Boxcar (double plug door)
Hope that info helps.

The main thing about Trainfest is not the dealers and manufacturers but the emphasis on operating layouts. That is what sets it apart from many shows.
I am pleased to hear that Accurail will be there again this year (Atheran also posted a message saying they will be there). I try to buy at least one of Accurail’s Trainfest special cars each year (in spite of my disturbingly large and growing pile of “TBBs” – To Be Builts). Their booth is always a good one to visit. Trainfest is a great chance to tell the model manufacturers what you’d like to see them make or ask for their advice. I model the 1960s and always like to see more models appropriate to my era. This year it looks like that Green Bay & Western boxcar with the Packers football on it will be the car I buy (and I remember seeing the prototypes – this is not a novelty or collector car but a real model)
Here is an example of what I mean by talking to the manufacturers. A couple of years ago I was facing building a bridge project that was going to involve stone retaining walls. The owner of Chooch was of great help in selecting which of their resin cast stone walls was what I needed, based on us looking at photos of the prototype that I brought with me to the show. He and I probably studied those photos for a good 15 minutes.

Oh yeah the layouts, I know thats the main reason for trainfest, I enjoy looking at the layouts seeing things that may improve my layout. I even ask the members of each club how they did this or that and always get a nice informative reply.
I also like the fact about learning the history of railroads in displays, and meeting people that are into the same things as I am.
I also like the fact some manufactures have clinics.
And I do like the fact certain manufactures offer special items for the show, along with other offer their product lines so I can pick them up.
Now that does look like fun! Thanks for sharing that link.
guys, how are Accurail’s cars? I haven’t had the chance to even look at one to see the quality. Are they worth investing in?
is trainfest every year in milwaukee

Jeff,
Trainfest is yealy and has been going on for 35 yrs. I have only been attending it since 2000 and only missed once because I was very very very ill with the flu.
For the past 35 years, yes. For the last 20+ years, the 2nd weekend in November.
See you there, if you’re going.
I have never missed a year. Can’t wait.
i guess i will have to come back out next year to check it out
jeff
Anyone coming to Trainfest is certainly urged to come to the Kalmbach booth at 12 noon on Saturday for a “forum regulars” reunion and group photo. See you there. I will be holding a sign so we gather in the same corner

the car is not for the “purist” and even considering it a stand-in is a bit of a stretch. The Accurail model is an ACF 12 panel boxcar; the GBW’s 501-520 series boxcars were Pullman-Standard PS-1’s. So the model has a different roof, ends, and door. Here is the Accurail car: http://www.accurail.com/accurail/ART/trainfest/2006/Gbw502.jpg Here is a well-worn GBW prototype: http://www.greenbayroute.com/gbw517.jpg Still, this is the closest car to the GBW prototype in the Accurail product line, and it is always a pleasure to see that they keep the GBW in mind when doing the special cars for Trainfest.
We had our Forum Regulars group photo at Trainfest and Keith Schmidt has posted the photo elsewhere on these forums
