I thought I saw a members list somewhere. I had actually signed up in 2006, but I got tied up for a while due to family problems with my son and grandkids. When I finally got them back on their feet, I had forgotten my login name and password, so I signed up again. I can’t even remember now what I even posted.
I did the same thing in another forum. I believe I found that old login name while going through the members list. I found a name that sounded like me and the last login date was right about the time my son had his problems.
I’ve been meaning to ask and since the topic has come up, how do people get their own websites listed in the profile?
Brett Favre is NOT going to come out of retirement. The rumors are rumors. He’s messing with the media. And to keep this train related, I once saw Brett on a train. [;)]
I thought that was the Bears (or Falcons[take your pick]) And to keep this train related, Green Bay has a Championship caliber (w/ Favre or Rodgers) NFL team, and they had a good Regional RR. BTW, to keep this thread on topic, see my sig.
Hi Craig,
Well, I’m the guy who just emailed you about that turn table deal, so now you know who I am!
Shhhh…don’t tell!
Really though, folks, I don’t think anyone wants us to post truly personal info. just enough to evaluate whether or not our advice given and gotten is based on a reasonable level of experience. Age is relevant
because a well written (spoken?) 10 yr. old can sound like an adult. Occupation can be a good indicator as to whether or not a DCC “expert” really knows what he/she is speaking about, etc.
General geographical area is nice (but does approach personal, I guess) as I’ve already gotten in touch via PMs to get together with posters in my region who ARE more experienced than I am which is not only
greatly appreciated but extremely helpful.
We can always keep our secret hero identities secret unless we want to reveal them via PMs to people we trust.
I personally find it annoying to receive advice from divers (for example) on dive forums and not be able
to see if they have any real experience or basis for their opinions/advice or are just telling us all something they’ve heard or read. In diving that can actually be life threatening. In Model Railroading not quite so
“dangerous” although judging by all of the economy/money/tough times threads of late, none of us has the dough to waste following advice from folks we can’t at least “see where they’re comin’ from”.
Sure profiles can be made up but if they aren’t I for one find them mighty handy.
I think at the least the following are reasonable and helpful to everyone:
l. Occupation or years of experience in the hobby (or related, like electronics, carpentry, hobby store ownership/employment, etc.
Age and years in M.R.ing
Geographical Location (helps in enquiries about Hobby Shop Locations, making new friends if both parties are game for meeting up via PMs

1)Occupation means nothing. There are modelers here from all walks of life. A carpenter may be able to build a layout, but not have a clue to run trains. Electronics engineers amy be able to build a power consol to run trains, but not build something to run them on. I know hobby shop owners/employees who don’t know an ELRR from a LVRR, or if a loco is DCC equiped or not, or how to wire a programming track. SO a “hobby shop owner” doesn’t necessarily impart knowledge of MRR. And heaven knows we can’t have lawyers for MRR’s! They’ll sue! Oh my!
2)Age means nothing. A 70 year old may just be starting and the 15 year old may have 5 years in the hobby. “years in M.R.ing”-THERE! YOU MIGHT BE ONTO SOMETHING! BUT, I had O/O27 as a kid/teen and N as a teen for some years. Do those years count? From 19 to 40-something I was out of MRR. I got back in 2 years ago and decided to go HO. I never built anything except in O (kits in N). That basically means I’m “green” again as I don’t know HO scale well, and decided to go with the new-wave, new-fangled, high-faluten thing called “DCC”. My knowledge of simple N scale DC wiring means little to me now. Someone in the hobby for 50 year
The ultimate proof of experience and so forth would simply be a profile that included copious photos of one’s work (and links to YouTube videos so we know the wiring works)! [:)]
Sometimes some people just don’t seem to get the humor in a reply… Case and point. wedudler e-mailed me asking me what I meant in the last words of my first reply, so rather than send him a reply with my e-mail address attached to it, I thought I’d come back and explain it to him this way.
Wedudler, it means that like a lot of other people in the world, I’m a very private person and don’t care to have my personal information spread out there for everyone in the world to see. I enjoy stopping by the forum here and commenting on topics once in a while then vanishing until next time. As far as that goes my name may not be Mark, it may be David or John or Adam. I may not live in southest Texas but may live in western Florida or northern California. I also may not even be a model railroader at all but might read so many books on the subject that I can fake it. In other words I can be anyone I want to on the web if that’s what I want. So just enjoy the forum for what it is and don’t worry about who’s who and all of that.
i think this is a odd type of question that does not have anything to do with this fourn or the hobby… and the way how we live in this day and age to much information is not a good thing… the simple information located under the avatar in all the info anyone here needs
The ORIGINAL complaint was ‘Blank Profiles’ - not incriminating evidence. ‘Occupation’ is a voluntary work choice so are ‘Hobbies’. What’s wrong with that? - even if it’s ‘Girls’.
