I made a new backscene for board 1 (of 8) a few weeks ago, painting the sky and cutting out and attaching buildings from the Walthers hotel and business background scene.
I have now revisited the same backscene 2 weeks later to alter it again and replaced the Walthers buildings with photo cut-outs instead.
Before
First upgrade - lasted 2 weeks
Second upgrade - hopefully more permanent
Now to print off some more buildings for the next board.
Your previous thread on this topic was interesting to watch develop. Most of the Sweethome pictures over the years have been carefully composed photos in which it was hard to tell where the layout ended and the backdrop began, so I liked seeing a slightly more “open” view of how things were all put together to create such a big-city feel from a narrow layout.
I like the new look, too. I think it actually increases the illusion of depth, by adding perspective to the background that wasn’t as pronounced before.
Oddly, I was on a layout tour over the weekend, and 3 of the 4 layouts I visited used the background pictures that used to sit behind Sweethome.
I like the scene. Would you be able to provide a picture looking down on the site, ie, plan view (camera against wall looking down at layout). I’d appreciate being able to see the depth you’ve created with the smaller space. Thanks, Jason
Yup, that is a much improved looking background. And thanks for taking the time to show them progress shots. I also would love to see a photo of the site looking down.
On that last pic, the very bottom left hand corner, what is that guy carrying?
Board 7 upgrade. Looking at the photos, I am not too happy with the power plant and chimneys scene - they are too high up - and will replace it post-haste.
I have a couple of oldies for now. the 2 photos are of the same place on the layout one before and the other after a major trackwork upgrade earlier this year. BTW, the layout is only 18 inches deep.
Finally, the last backscene to get revamped. Thankfully I am not exhibiting the layout until Saturday (Wigan, Lancashire) so I still have a few days to tinker with the electrics, clean the track, write new car cards, etc, etc.
