Uploading photos

How can I upload photos to galleries?[*-)]

Guy,

You need to open up an account on a site (e.g. Photobucket, RailImages.com, Shutterfly, etc.) that will host your pics. Once you upload them to their site, you can then link them here.

All you need to do is:

  1. Copy your picture’s URL (web address on the hosting site)
  2. Open up a new post or thread on the forum
  3. Click the Insert image icon (looks like a Polaroid picture) above the text box
  4. Paste your picture’s URL in the Link to media text box
  5. Click the Insert button - Your picture should then become visible in your post
  6. Click the Post button

That’s all there is to it. Hope that helps…

Tom

[Edit: Guy, after re-reading your question, I NOW understand what you are referring to. [D)] Sorry about that. [:$] I guessing that that’s a feature that has either yet to be turned on…or is a list of pictures that you’ve posted on the forum. Unless something has changed, I don’t think MR has increased the amount of room on their server for picture storage. That’s why in the past they’ve opted to have users have their own pictures hosted on another site then linked to them here.]

My question was misleading because I thought there was a new way to do it through the “revised forum”.

I will get comfortable with it someday.

If you mean upload image to the photo galleries (as opposed to just displaying a photo in a forum post), I assume you just use the “new post” button on the gallery page (http://cs.trains.com/mrr/m/mrr-layouts/default.aspx).

The photo galleries was a function that wasn’t all that integrated with the forums in the previous - they essentially seemed to be two different services that just were located on the same server, where it was possible to browse the galleries and comment, but not so obvious how one could display gallery images in forum posts.

Now you got me to wondering.

Let’s see then.

Why… ? ? ?

Other pages have a direct upload from my computer to the page…

What if I don’t want to wash all my photos through some other username and password.

see ya

Bob

Then you can use the “photo gallery” part of this website, which was introduced in the previous version of the Telligent community server software Kalmbach is using.

It does indeed allow you to upload some pictures to Kalmbach’s server. But the photo gallery part of the website is seemingly poorly integrated with the discussion forums - you are not uploading photos as attachments to your forum post - you are putting the photos on another page, where few people will discover your freestanding photos, and I haven’t spotted any easy way of displaying the images in the photo galleries from inside my forum posts - which is where I want to put pictures…

The advantage of using a photo sharing service of some kind - e.g photobucket - is that you upload your images to one place which is set up to have the necessary bandwidth to share photos (instead of having Kalmbach’s server - which is slow enough as it is - serve images as well), and then you can put URLs or IMG codes pointing to your photos from different posts in different forums - so you can reuse your photos.

I have tried to post photos in the photo gallery but, for some reason they won’t post. I don’t have any problem posting photos on the show me something thread, nor the WPF thread. How is that done?

Let’s see if my method under the old format still works:

Yep, it still works.

Rich

Rich,

Rich,

That is an awesome scene but, can you post it on the photo gallery? If so . How?

Sam

Ollevon:

When I have posted to the photo gallery,I have uploaded the pictures directly from my computer.I don’t know if you can transfer a photo from Photobucket, etc.

P.S. Also, your photo usually doesn’t show up until the next day.I think they hold them until someone can check to make sure nothing offensive is posted.

Ollevon…

What procedure did you use to upload from your computer?

Thanx

Bob

Bob: Not sure If you were asking Ollevon or me. Here’s how I do it.

From MR’s home page click on “Communities”,then click “Photo Galleries”. On the top right, click “New Post”,Then click “Browse”. That will open windows explorer on your computer.Just find and select the file you want.

If you weren’t asking me,I apologize for butting in.
