Try not to worry about those few who insist on being negative. Most of us are happy to help.

If you haven’t already had your question answered, here is a link to a post I made on this topic some time ago:

It is aimed at someone who has a relatively low level of comfort with computers, hence it is rather long. However, it does work.

Dave

Hey there Dave,

From my experience as a kid trying to break into the "elite"world of model railroading, Model railroaders are a cantankerous bunch at best. Ive learned to live with it  no offence to any persons intended. Now that I have reached the Glorious age of 40 the same still seems to apply, non the less, Being and ex-techer, I have the motto of if you dont know ask, no matter how others respond  Tx again for the warm welcome and assistance, and I will have a few pics up in the next few minutes…I am a fast learner.

Greg

Greg,

I think that all your fears are for naught. If you notice, no one so far has belittled your request for help.

I think you need to give your fellow modelers a little more credit than you have so far.

The only dumb question is the one not asked.

hi there Rich,

I have nothing against the modellers, and yes I have not been belittled or ridiculed in anyway, it was just a general observation about some of the “old gaurd”, that only helped after knowing them for 20+ years  silly buggers  Here in South Africa, Model railroading has a definite “elite” fraternity, one of those elite stays about 5miles from me, and boy is he like a bear with a sore tooth, but a good guy at heart, has loads of fun operating with me on my layout, yet heaven forbid anyone operating his layout other than himself, with me as a spectator… go figure?

But in closing…What a wonderful hobby, practiced by even more wonderful people, and yes a BIG thank you to all that welcomed me, did not ridicule me and my attempts, and are willing to shre knowledge.

That’s exactly what I told my classes of trainees when I taught training courses for the company I worked for. They sure took me up on that! I had to tell them to wait until I finished a topic to ask their questions because so many of their questions would be answered for them in a few minutes. At least they asked.
