( Upper ) Midwestern where is it? (no photo, only clues) *Solved*

How about something familiar, yet different? Chad had the Western where is it, based on his (super) photos. I don’t have photos, so all I can give you is clues, and answers to “yes” or “no” questions. Note that I have a limited imagination for these type of things. Let me know when someone else wants to try one.

This town built a railroad bridge accross a major waterway, hoping to attract a railroad with trans-continental ambitions. Allthough the town was served by Great Northern,Milwaukee Road, and Chicago Northwestern, the bridge never had rails on it. As another clue, Rock Island was, at one time, thought to be interested in putting a line through this town. Name the town, or ask a “yes” or “no” question.

Misssissippi River?

Between Wisconsin and Minnesota?

Lacrosse, WI?

Was the waterway the Missouri river?

LaCrosse would also be my guess.

I don’t think the GN got down to Lacrosse, did it? I was thinking Sioux City?

Bert

no, no & no

yes

no

no

Hint: the bridge is still used, all day every day. There is talk of replacing it .

Is the town in Iowa?

No. Not in Iowa

Is the physical location farther south than ALL of North Dakota?

[(-D]Man, you like to really qualify your yes or no questions! The answer is YES

Is any part of Kansas farther north than this bridge?

Chamberlain, SD.

Oh Lord, I hope you don’t start talking to me in longitude and latitude! The answer is no.

Not Chamberlain. Oddly, the bridge of which I speak was built many, many years after the Milwaukee Road bridge at Chamberlain. Sadly, I don’t think the railroad bridge at Chamberlain has seen a train in quite a while, and may never see one again.[:(]

This shouldn’t take long- not many towns with bridges over the Missouri in SD.

Pierre!

Does a railroad cross the Missouri River within 100 miles of this bridge?
