YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! [(-D]
The ROCK lives forever ( at least in my upstairs )

RIRR80: years ago I was railfanning LaSalle/Peru Illinois just after the Rock Island closed down. There was a Southern Pacific boxcar still in the yard but otherwise the old coach that was the yard office was trashed (I was able to find a bundled up batch of train orders from the 1960s and some tickets from the railroad scale at the yard).

Anyway, on the old one stall engine house, the windows of which were mostly broken, someone had written in chalk “the Rock lives” - next to a drawing of their “R” symbol at the time. Poignant.

Dave, I swear I didn’t write that!

So your RTR loco will cost a few bucks more. Think of it as going to a good cause! [:o)][8D]

My guess, and it is only a guess is that it was at the CN/Rock crossing. I have heard on the news this morning of the problem.

Both the CN’s (ex IC) St. Charles Airline and the Joliet division cross Metra at or around 16th street.

The CN is a mess this morning in NW Indiana. Here at Valparaiso, west bounds were stacked up…CN399 went dead and was followed by the BNSF empty coal train 767. They were shuffling crews from train to train.

Also, train 260 seemed to have a noncompliant locomotive…the crew was taxied back to Markham for another locomotive. CN 348’s crew only had a couple of hours left before they expired and they hoped to get them to South Bend. CN 399 recrewed with a crew from 767 (they had one hour left) and they promptly reported the EOT devise wasnt registering, so that crew was picked up by CN 149.

Meanwhile the trains were recrewed with 2 EB’s and 2 WB’s ready to traverse the single track from Sedley to Valpo. Whew!

Meanwhile the NS ran like clockwork on their single line CTC.

Since that’s not UP’s track, UP should not have to take the rap for this one, unless it was found to have been caused by improper train handling on the part of the crew.

A UPRR with 10 loco’s just passed Ft. Madison on the BNSF going east. [:p][:D][:)]

The derailment was at the 16th St crossing. Not sure if it was UP, but I can see how somebody would jump to that conclusion with the week that the UP has had. Also, this derailment could affect UP detours over the IAIS (Galt derailment).

Trainorders.com reports that the train was a BNSF, not UP, coal train that derailed.

Opps!It was a BNSF coal train.Sorry guys.

How many Derailments is that so far this year alone?

Who knows?

The NORX trains normally do travel on UP. I heard that it was BNSF by noon today. But I’m wondering whether this might have been a train detoured off UP due to the Galt derailment.

They got the RI line opened by evening, I understand.

It was at the 16th street crossing with the Metra/Rock and it was a NORX train. One of the local news stations showed some video and it appeared the crane they were using had a UP shield on it, but the newscaster said BNSF was investigating the cause of the derailment. They pulled the train apart, scooped up the spilled coal, and got one track open late yesterday morning, but last night I heard that the last 2 outbound commutes were canceled. They didn’t say why.

I’m not sure how the reporting marks relate to destinations, but there’s a NORX train on the the BNSF-Q racetrack daily around noon time. Saw 2 new-looking AC-44s in BNSF orange pulling it the other day.

This turned out to be a BNSF derailment

This coal train did originate from BNSF, I took one up the airline there just 5 days ago. I’m trying to find out if it was one of our crews, since if we have time we take them to around 91st. I do know speed limit is 10 mph there and typically we don’t even get above 6-8 mph until we are past McCormick Place. I’m glad it was minor (in terms of no injuries and such) and I’m glad it didn’t happen 5 days ago!!

Once I saw the train symbol I realized it would have been an NS crew starting at Union Ave for that coal train. Should have checked a little more carefully before posting ehh? Oh well, 3 hours of sleep will do that to you.

Later,
