UP's BSA Commerative Locomotive

Here is a link to what the BSA locomotive looks like.

As I said over on the Trains Mag side of the forums, it is a very nice loco.

It would have been nice if they gave it a full paint job (it would look great in tan, IMO), but it still looks sharp.

EDIT: It looks nice, even though it’s a GEVO! [;)]

If a model were to be released, I’d buy it.

I got something for you guys. In Feb, I contacted the UP RR to ask for a Railroad Merit Badge tour. The date is April 3rd. When you pointed this out I looked into the locomotive. It was scheduled for creation in Feb., the same month I called, it supposedly painted in Texas, and it is supposed to work trains from Chicago to LA. Well, the shortest route for that is Chicago to SL, and then go to LA via Las Vegas. I just can’t help but wonder. The public affairs coordinator of Utah has been very nice to me. Would he have gone this far as to order the locomotive to be painted or to arrange it to pass by the SL Roper yard in 2 days? Ill report back to you guys.

Knowcents took some time off from work, went down to the yard, and took pictures of it yesterday. He sent them to me in an e-mail. I also thought they could have done a better job on the paint. It should have been tan and olive for the Boy Scouts and maybe some blue and yellow for the Cub Scouts, but then again, UP didn’t have to do what they did, so I will just have to appreciate what they did do.

I was pleased to see the rank advancement badges under the cab from Cub Scouts to Eagle Scout and they also included the Venture and the Explorer groups. I have strong feelings for the scouting program. I am an Eagle Scout and was a “Woodbadge” trained Assistant Scoutmaster and a Scoutmaster for over 8 years in my adulthood. Seeing the locomotive decked out in the scouting symbols found a proud soft spot in my heart. I wish there were more kids these days interested in Scouting. There wouldn’t be so many problems with the kids today if they would join the program and take it to heart. They also have a cool merit badge: “Railroading.”

The UP person I am talking to for the merit badge sent me these links:
