Urbana, Illinois Train Show, March 19-20

The annual train show in Urbana, Illinois is set for this weekend, March 19-20. The hours on Saturday are 10am-6pm and Sunday from 11am-5pm. The location is Lincoln Square in downtown Urbana. There are usually a number of operating layouts, as well as numerous vendors and representatives from local RR historical societies and museums. The big day is Saturday. Admission is free.

It’s not the biggest train show, but it’s the biggest one around these parts. I’ve been looking forward to it and, since it starts the first day of spring break at the University of Illinois, I am REALLY looking forward to it right now. Oh well, back to work until then, now that I’ve got a note up here for all those who might be interested.

I want to add that there is a model contest at the show on Sunday. You need to bring models in for entry before noon on Sunday, they will be on display for judging from noon to 4pm, with the winners announced then. I was reminded of this when talking to a friend last night, whose 3-year old is entering a monorail model – I’ll bet it is the only monorail in the show! Anyway, adults are also invited to enter and will probably make up the bulk of the entries, but this is truly an all ages event, so bring the family and have some fun.
