Hi,
I’m modeling in TT 1/120 gauge and I was looking for US accessories, buildings kits close to TT 1/120 Scale.
Do you guys know any N-Scale (Buildings which are a little too large for “N”) or HO-Scale (Buildings which are a little too small for “HO”) US structures and buildings which I could use on my TT Scale layout? It could possibly be some older stuff back when the makers didn’t 100% care about the exact scale.
Any ideas?
Thanks a lot guys,
Enrico.
Enrico,
I don’t know if you tried the Website I gave you before, But give it a try,you have nothing to lose…
WWW.TTNUT .COM It is a forum similar to this, but about TT-scale only…
Cheers,
Frank
Thanks Frank!
Yes, I’m member TTNut since a while, but because they are all pretty much TT Scale guys, they don’t have the experience which a “N” or “HO” expert would have.
Therefore my question here. [:)]

Scratch building is always an alternative. With all the styrene modeling products available today, it is rather easy to build attractive structures and details from scratch. Larger N-scale and/or smaller HO-scale commercially produced window castings could be used. Properly sized door castings might be a little tougher. If you have never tried to scratch build structures, try something small like a shed or other small outbuilding. If you find you don’t like working in styrene, there is always wood, cardstock, foam-core and other materials.
I use a computer aided drafting program to design my structures, then print them out on cardstock. I carefully cut out the cardstock structures, then fold and glue them into 3-D mock-ups I can place on the layout to check things like footprint, height and proportions. A whole town of cardstock mock-up buildings can be created and placed on the layout in a very short time. I go back later and replace each mock-up as I find time to build the final styrene structure. In the meantime, the cardstock mock-ups look far more interesting than a bare space on the layout.
Another option is paper model kts. While few, if any, are TT scale, they can be printed in TT scale using a photo editing program like Photo Shop. For instance a HO model printed at 72.5% while be TT scale. I usually use Paint Shop Pro since I’ve owned a copy for many years. Inkscape and GIMP are capable programs and they are both free.
There are many building available for free download. Quality varies from poor to excelent. Excellent quality buildings are available for download at reasonable costs from Clever Models and others.
Thank you very much guys, very good ideas to hunt for.
I already did some kit bashing and scratch building like the vine cellar and the toilette here:
Who are the major accessories supplier here in the US for N and HO?
Thanks,
Enrico.
For small HO buildings you can use the Woodland Scenics metal ones. They don’t look bad for TT. I also think that the older Model Power buildings in N scale are suitable.
Another idea for you is to use a forced perspective on your layout. I did that on my previous TT layout. The layout was 24 inches wide, so the front 8 inches was small HO buildings, and the back 8 inches was larger N scale buildings. The center 8 inches was TT buildings.
Auhagen makes TT building kits and they are available from Euro Train Hobby in New Jersey. Quite a few of them can be made to look American.

Hi Elmer,
great ideas!
I use Auhagen quite a bit for me German part of the railroad. They offer city buildings in a scale for HO/TT in a scale of 1/100. I use them in the front of my station and real TT Scale 1/120 behind the station. This is giving the whole scene more depth like you are mentioning.
I will check out the Woodland Scenic and the Model Power stuff probably at Ebay!
Thanks again,
Knuddel.
B.T.S. makes TT kits. see their page here.
Enjoy
Paul
I am stuck on N scale, but it is enjoyable reading about TT.
