Or the little old lady from Dubuque IA
The Baldwin has 43,000 miles, yet only 157 hours of operation? 250 mph–high speed operation, for sure…
(perhaps I misread something in the article…).
Out of stock? …Already?..Eh I’ll just try and bid $50 on a forklift XD
That Baldwin is practically new! Driven by a little old lady from Pasadena I’m sure.
Too bad that the Air Force yanked the access tracks before these locomotives were offered up as surplus.
They certainly would make a nice addition to a short line or better yet a museum.
Hope SMS Rail in New Jersey bids on the Baldwin. They will give it a good home.
Rather stupid, methinks. Couldn’t they have gotten the locos off-line, to a connection, before they shut the railroad down? Our tax dollars at work! The Fort Lee-Fort Hill thingie was a non-starter. Another reason to get the FRA/TSA/NTSB, HSA, etc., out of the way. “We’s from the Gummint, and we’s here to hep” don’t work. Never did!
The hrs virus milage does’nt add up, but it would be nice if it could be returned to active duty…Also good news of the Montana Shortline bridge being repared…
The shuttle train was an novel approach to meeting a troop transportation requirement. While Fort Lee is the Army’s logistics “classroom”, the tactical field training takes place at Fort A.P. Hill. If Fort Lee had a higher student population, the “economics” would have been better.
Foothill light rail line in California…will it be called Pacific Electric …Northern Division?

Troop shuttle idea was right out of F troop.
Montana Hays, a dime will get you a dollar that the trucking of the engines is because they have solid, not roller, bearing trucks…I haven’t seen 'em
Yeah I know high wagers are grievously sinful…you betcha!
Service to Fort Belvoir, VA ?
I hope Metra Executive Director Don Orseno is on to this. These cars alone won’t come close to meeting the number of spare cars he needs. But “Every little bit helps”, as they say.
Yet another point of evidence that “military intelligence” is an oxymoron. Cease operation for nearly 3 years while trapping the rolling stop on the wrong end of ripped up rails? Those involved should be disciplined.
If American business was run this way, we’d be a nation of service jobs, only.
Looking at aerials in Bing Maps and Google Earth, it doesn’t look like the locomotives are trapped.
