USA Trains GP30
IT is a good running loco
An oldie but goldie! I have a couple of these (Conrail) GP30’s and they have proved consistently good runners on my railway, usually lashed to 20 or 30 assorted trucks. When weathered and with the large coupler cutouts covered, they look the part. Gear noise is noticable at high speed, high load, but is not offensive. A USA Trains GP30 was the second engine I ever bought (in 2003), and I got a second one recently (2007) which I guess is recommendation enough.

The SP model (5012) was my first “diesel” purchase in December 2006 and found it to run very well. Shortly after, I installed an Airwire 900 receiver and two rechargable RC car batteries (9.6 Volt) and found them to fit well inside the long hood. This locomotive runs very well with these, as well as the USA Trains GP 9 that I outfitted likewise and painted in SP scarlet and gray, #3412. I intend (as finances permit) to acquire additional diesels from USA Trains as they have run well and have a high level of detail that I find fascinating.
