Use of matte or gloss medium as an overcoat on decaled models.

Some background first. For diluting PollyScale prior to airbrushing, I use Liquidtex Airbrush Medium. This is a dilute acrylic medium, which functions as the “thinner” or vehicle for acrylic paints, much as lacquer thinner is a vehicle for lacquer paints. This is a better method for thinning PollyScale and other acrylic paints than using water, alcohol, or windshield wiper fluid as it doesn’t change the concentration of the paint’s vehicle.

Here’s the question: I’ve been buying the PollyScale flat, matte, and gloss finishes in the 1/2 ounce jars for the gloss coat prior to decaling, or the finish coat after decaling, and those little buggers are expensive to say the least. While buying another bottle of the airbrush medium the other day, it occured to me that I could buy large bottles of matte or gloss medium and thin them with the airbrush medium and get the same results. Has anyone tried this? How did it work out for you?

Thanks,

Greg
