What do you keep around your bench?
What work bench, is that whats under that pile of junk, I knew it was somewhere around here.
I keep just about everything, except for horn hook couplers, and maybe a few other small things.

I keep everything, just in case…
I keep everthing if I threw it away I would need it sometime…I am still waiting to use a lot of things [juck] but as the scouts say I am prepaired…Cox 47
I keep everything that isn’t beyond repair. Given that I am one of the younger participants of this hobby. There very well could be a day that I am very glad I kept that pile of junk because they are then being repaired, rebuilt, and ushered back into service on my layout. Anyone got any Brass Track, Talgo (Snap on) Type trucks, plastic wheelsets. Pancake motor assempblies (Possibly with attatched locos?) or just general back shop scrap pile items they would like to donate to a good home and cause? Email me off list.
James.
I did toss some stuff in 84. Oh how I wish I had it back.
When I saw the title I thought the truth in advertising people had struck.
What, pray tell, made you think they didn’t?
I’ve biffed some stuff, like my Dad’s first layout we used to run together. I was a teenager then and other things were more interesting ( Girls !!! ) Man I wish I’d kept that layout. [sigh] I’m sure Dad would help me run trains from above.
Ken.
I do throw away horn hook couplers. Just about everything else stays. Old plastic wheelsets can be sprayed with rust and become gon loads. The same with broken KD or McHenry couplers. The rest just fills up the space on my workbench.

PROJECTS THAT I SHOULD FINISH!
The most useful thing i a mechanics toolbox is the junk drawer. I left that part of the business back in 93 but I still keep that attitude. I still have some of the junk. I have an organizer with trimmed pieces of rail and ties removed from flex track for connectors and soldering on feeder wires. I may have a problem…
When I first started converting my couplers, I was keeping all the parts. At some point, I heard a voice saying, “It’s junk, people! Toss it and be done!.” (Emphasis and punctuation mine.) Now they go straight into the wastebasket, or on to the floor, which explains why I never made it in the NBA. Of course, I still have all the junk in the boxes from my teenage layout in the 60’s. But, that’s classic junk.
I keep way to much junk! But I cant throw it away, I may need it. hehe!
Out it goes. However, I do keep the detailing stuff that I don’t use, the stuff that LL includes on their Heritage steamers, and I have kept just enough plastic wheel sets to have that short supply rail with wheel sets aside my roundhouse.
If I remove anything and replace it with something I feel is better, then what I remove is inferior. Unless I plan to use it in some kitbashing, out it goes.
I keep it all…Because I know that one day it will come in handy.
I keep everything in a few piles.
