I have been through Thurmond on the Amtrack and that layout captures the area beautifully. The ride around is greatly enhanced by the sound effects and it is a surprise to find that you have been in a circle.
Thanks Ralph for the kind words I found Thurmond in 1978 on a white water rafting trip
looked like the perfect Shelf style layout because of it being built on the narrow shelf of the river’s edge The layout fits nicely in a 12x10 bedroom and Mt Hope really is only
14 miles up the Loup Creek Branch line So it fits in nice to the over all scheme
Greetings, I really enjoyed your video. I am a native of the area and all I needed to feel at home was a “Nehigh Grape soda and a Moon Pie.” I am just in the planning stages of a layout that I want to go from Hawks Nest to Rainelle (C&O and Nicholas, Fayette, & Greenbrier.). I would really like to know where you got the drawings of Thurmond? I have the plan of the yard but I see you have a lot more. I am from Ansted, WV. (aka Hawks Nest Park) and was a police officer in Mount Hope, WV. many years ago. Great Job!
Hi Lon
There are many Sources for the drawings But most were done by the National Parks Service you can also search the records of >http://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/hh/
If you start by using Google to look up Thurmond /Mt Hope you’ll even find a photo of the MT Hope station
WV Railroads also has lots of drawings>http://www.wva-usa.com/newsite/www.wvrailroads.com/drawings/thurmond-yards/
Glad you enjoyed it
