Using a Roadbed with Kato Unitrack for Scenic Ridge layout

I have bitten the bullet and bought the Scenic Ridge layout kit. I have decided on Kato track instead of the Atlas track as I hate the snap switches. I have used Kato track in both HO and N and loved it for my simple oval layouts. Now the question???

As the Kato track has a trackbed should I bother with the provided WS Trackbed or cork or nothing.

My thought is the tracks will be too high if I put anything else under it. Does anyone have any experience using the Kato track with this kit?

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn’t add roadbed below the Unitrack – it’s already built in and you don’t want to create additional clearance issues. Note also that the Unitrack turnouts (track switches) have a different geometry than Atlas, so you will need to do some reworking of the plan to make them fit.

Best of luck.

Here is the track plan I did using Rail Modeler. I got the basics and part list from the Kato site but the actual diagram was very cryptic.

Thank you for your input,
