Has anyone had experience with this product? I am curious as to the best way to mount switch machines to it.
I am using 1/2" Gator Board for a view block. When you say switch machines I think Tortoise. Is that correct? I have never tried to mount a Tortoise to Gator Board and wonder if it is string enough. I would NOT use screws. I would glue it to the board. In fact, I would probably mount the Tortoise on a piece of 1/4" or 1/2" plywood about four inches square with screws, then glue that assembly to the gator Board using contact cement. As I envision it, it will be a two person job. After applying contact cement to the plywood square and to the Gator Board. a person under the layout could use a piece of waxed paper between the two glued surfaces so it could be wiggled around to the right place. A oerson on the top side could make sure the location is right before giving the OK to remove the waxed paper.
As I said I have never tried this but I think it would work.
Thats about what I figured. Sounds logical just wonder how the glue would hold up.
I think if you use contact cement the glue will hold. But will the bond between the foam and the fibrous skin hold? I guess only time will tell. You might direct an inquiry to the Gator Board manufacturer.
[:-^]
I think I might try Velcro. Gator board is very ridged and I think velcro would hold well.
Johnboy out…
I use hot glue for Tortoise on plywood. It should work on Gator Board assuming the skin holds. But the idea to mount the Tortoise, etc to a piece of 1/4 ply is a good one. Hot glue both sides. That would limit the flexing the switch machine might cause and thus give you nice solid action.
