Using Marble and Granite for Ballast

Greetings from Beast

Has anyone used scrap from monument/tombstone shops? Any thoughts on will crushed marble or granite like that work as ballast?

Any crushed stone should work just fine, as long as it’s small enough.

White marble ballast might be a bit unusual but I’m sure there are places it’s used in the real world.

granite could work if you can crush the rocks to the appropriate sizes, and if the colors match your prototype, go for it, might be a lot of work getting the sizes that woild look right though. I have used left over granite stones (#2’s) they are HUGE for scale ton - tan and a half boulders atleast. Better off taking those stones, glueing them together and making a retaining wall or foundation walls might be more realistic, but everthing depends on the size of the rocks your getting.

Chicken and turkey grit often used for ballast is made from crushed granite. I never cared for the color but some like it.
