Using this product to glue styrene sheets

I completely forgot to add glue to my order of styrene from Plastruct. I read in an earlier forum about using Tenax 7. My local hobby shop carries it but I found this product at Michaels’ web page: http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayProductPage?productNum=gc0326. Has anyone used it?

TIA!

Lee

I’ve never used that product, but Tenax 7R, Testors liquid plastic cement in a 1 fl. oz. bottle with a brush in the cap, or Tamiya liquid cement would be a better choice. If you’re going to shop at Michael’s or a local hobby shop, they should have the Tamiya or Testors cement. Even Wal-mart and K-mart have Testors here in Arizona.

I’ve recently begun using Ambroid Pro Weld for plastics which works extremely well. It is a liquid cement so it is easy to apply neatly. It creates a strong bond in a matter of seconds. I think it is a much superior product than Testor’s liquid cement which I have used in the past which takes quite a while to cure and often requires the pieces to be clamped while the cement sets up. I have no knowledge of the product you are asking about. I get my Ambroid from Micro-Mark.

One question…are you actually gluing styrene sheets together and why?

Any tube glue like that stuff from Michaels is a relic of the 70’s, it has uses, apparently gluing buttons to something is one, but you are much better off with Ambroid Pro Weld, Tenax7 or Plastruct liquid glue than with anything goopy and thick in a tube…the Testors tube glue is horrible, stringy, messy and takes a long time to dry…and eventually the joint cracks because it becomes brittle. My recommendation…go with the liquid glue you’ll save yourself trouble later on.
