I’m just beginning to weather some of my stuctures etc. and a few of them I’ve already tried a wash of alcohol/india ink. I’d like to try using a little rust colored pastel powder here and there but I know that would need to be sealed by a light spray of Dulcote. It seems like I remember, in a weathering thread a while back, that you shouldn’t apply the Dulcote on an item that’s had a previous wash of the alcohol. Do I remember that wrong, or is it ok?

Actually, it’s the other way around. You normally don’t want to apply alcohol over Dullcote. It turns the Dullcote kind of a milky color. OTH, if what you want is a really heavily weathered, bleached out finish, it is the ideal way to achieve it. Try it once on a practice car shell and see what you think. I think it is kind of cool, but it could be easily overdone.
Hi Jarrell: MRR Sparky has it right. The neat thing about it, though, is if you don’t like the whitish result, just spray it with Dull Coat, and the white disappears. Here’s an example on an old abandoned wood mine building.

Ok, thanks guys! I had it backwards… what a surprise. Grampy thanks for the photo!
