What colors/paints does everyone use for their utility poles?
what are they made of ? mine are brown, that’s the usual. what where you thinking, metal? or concrete? wouldn’t be bad… dont’ forget to add the signage to them, reflectors, warnings, advertising, lost dog notices
In the 50’s utility poles were soaked in creosote, which gave them a shiny coat of goo the color of dark chocolate. They would slowly weather out to a brownish dark grey. Guy wires in urban areas would have candy-striped sleeves (yellow and black) about four inches in diameter and about seven feet long on the ground end. Modern poles use a different preservative system, so they are lighter brown and flat finish.
As for signage, don’t forget the all-important garage/yard sales.
I use real wood with a wash of india ink.
ok thanks…I love the signage and guy wire ideas!
Notice in this photo – which I think captures the true colors pretty well --how the pole is darkest towards the ground
Some have a very precise line where the dark wood treatment goes up about 4 or 5 feet
