Reggie,
I don’t know about hobby shops, but for my money a visit to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry to see the model train layout and the Burlington Zepher are worth the trip.

how do i go by getting to the museum from the corner of damen and ohio. this is where i’ll be for the weekend. that is if you are from here and know your way around.

See if this helps you:

I have driven to the museum and rode the bus. If you are staying at a hotel, the concierge should be able to get you there and back with no problems. The museum is on the lakefront south of downtown.

My first vist to the museum and Chicago was when I was in 5th grade. I must of stood and watched the model train exhibit for over an hour with my tongue hanging out in awe.

Hi , thatboy37 with all the traffic and road constuction going on in that area I am giving some basic direction’s . Take ohio east toward the lake to michigan ave go south to monroe st. east to lakeshore drive south on lakeshore drive watch for the museum sign’s. lakeshore drive take’s you wright by it. drive safe and have fun.
Mike

hey mike are there any good hobby shops here to go to since you seem to know your way around.

Hello Reggie:

I hope you have a great time in Chicago. Damen & Ohio is about 25 minutes from the Museum of Science and Industry. Your best bet is to take a cab if you are staying at a hotel. Otherwise, head south on Damen to I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway). As you head east, the expressway becomes Congress Parkway, continue on Congress to Lake Shore Drive. Take Lake Shore Drive south to 55th street and follow the signs for museum parking.

As for hobby stores, I can think of two that are not too far away:

Berwyns Toys and Trains
7025 E. Ogden Avenue
Berwyn, IL

Chicagoland Hobby
6017 Northwest Highway
Chicago, IL

Both stores are about the same distance from your location.

Have a great time!

Regards,

John

The other guys have mentioned all the same things I would recommend. Remember the White Sox are playing at home tonight and during the day on Sat. That, along with the interstate traffic, will make things bananas. There’s another hobby store I see advertised in CTT - York Trains - that’s just over the border in Indiana. If you had the time, I might consider driving to South Bend, partking at the airport and taking the South Shore into the city - then a cab or bus down to the museum or over to the Northwest line to visit Chicagoland Hobby and Hill’s Hobbies. You’d have to check out their schedules online to see what could be worked out.

thanks for the help guys. the museum was great it was more than i expected. i went to a couple of hobby shops 1 was open and it had a great selection of o s bucale ended up spending about 250 in there. the other 2 shops were closed but i will be traveling back to those two today. from the outside of the store looking through the glass these two had even a bigger selection than the 1st one. so i guess i will be like a kid in a candy store in ahh of all the trains. if you know where anyother shops are please feel free to let me know where they are at. again thanks for the info guys i will recommend the museum to all that ask bout a visit to chi-town. will get back to you guys later got to go enduldge myself in trains.
