My wife and I were sitting at the table early this week and we hinted around about what we are going to do for vacation this year…Well as it turned out (to my joy) that since the kids are grown and gone and the cars are paid off, we can now afford a good used class C motor home and tomorrow we will go look for one… i’ve already started plans on where to go…Railfanning!..I’ve decided that on the trip i’m going to go to Price and Helper Utah and take lots of pictures of UP railroading in the mountains this September…I’ll have lots of pictures when i get back…Vacation is for railfanning!..(good thing my wife puts up with me)

Have fun Chuck!!. I’m thinking about a day trip for the family to the opposite coast ( only two hours drive ) to see the coal mine and loading of the cars for transport back to this coast. I’ve been before but I was just a lad.
Have fun Ken.
Hey Chuck, Sounds great! I just hook on to the tin tent and go down the road but not as often as I would like. Take a lot of great pictures and post them for us to see. I’m turning green with envy already! [:D]
Man, that does sound like fun. Be sure to post some pics for us!
Chuck,
Have fun!! We had a blast back in May… Nancy is very understanding about my “train problem”.
Most of what we did had an underlying agenda… there was some sort of train related activity
involved.
A motor home… That’s the best way to travel. Have fun and post pictures. Dave
Have fun!! Take a lot of good scenic pictures.
I hope you have a ballast…er…blast. I gotta get out more. [%-)]
Vacation railfanning can be greatly enhanced by taking Amtrak–you get a trackside view of lots of things like yards and industries, and best of all, you don’t have to keep your eyes on the road when you want to check out the scenery!
Chuck, it sounds like you have similar ideas to those that I have. I am not planning to buy a motorhome, but did just buy a new pickup that I plan to use (along with motels/hotels) to take a trip this summer, which will involve some railfanning. It will also include some racecarfanning, since I have a good friend that races on one of the NASCAR touring circuits. I am hoping to mix these two interests on my vacation this year. If all goes well, I’ll be seeing the steam excursion trains in Williams, AZ (to the Grand Canyon), Durango, CO (to Silverton), Denver, CO (UP #844 from Denver to Cheyenne), and a few others along the way. I am also planning to catch two races in Colorado on two consecutive Saturdays this July. In between them, and when I’m not chasing trains, I am hoping to get to both Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore. I know it will be a cramped schedule, but there’s just so much to see!!!

I agree completely. This is why I am taking the Empire Builder back to Minnesota this July for the GNRHS convention. Then, once there, I get to ride behind our SD45
GN 400, and visit local facilities. Then the EB trip home (to Washington).
Wonderful opportunities-unfortunately if the @%#%$# administration has it’s
way, it might be the last one.[:(][V][:(!]
