UP 1989 lead one of the last Z-CSLT trains over Donner on Friday, July 30, 2010. Made up of single stack containers and road trailers, this Z train was like those of old, even though the Roseville Subdivision has been retrofitted to handle current double stack traffic. In this view the train is approaching the eastern yard limits at Truckee, Ca. the train will pull through the town of Truckee and continue its trip to Lathrop, Ca.
Hard to shoot quality shots while suspended under a bird! [wow][alien]
I’ve said it before we are fortunate to have the quality of photography demonstrated to us by a number of contributors to this Forum. Always interesting and enjoyable. Thank You![8D]
The photo does seem to have a blue-enhanced look to it. Not that that is always a bad thing. If done right, post-processing can really make an image come to life.
It is a rare photo indeed that does not need or benefit from some ‘tweaking’.
Pardon my ignorance folks, but I don’t understand the “Vampire” reference.
Does the appearance of sharply jagged mountain profiles appearing with the unit’s paint scheme have something to do with suggesting a human vampire’s fangs?
My previous post herein could be interpreted, unfortunately, two ways. It was meant to be positive. DadgerPhotography captured what I have never seen before, i.e., a blue tint on the gray part of the D&RGW Heritage unit. The high altitude lighting must have been just right to pull that off!
Sometimes one stumbles across the totally warped. Cliff siding in Tehachapi Pass as viewed from Caliente one time looked totally different! It was a strange phenomenon that I saw only once, and unfortunately, I didn’t have a camera with me to document the unusual experience. Fortunately, DadgerPhotography had his camera with him to document the gray’s blue hue in the Sierra’s.
The locomotive was affectionately named the Vampire by Colorado area railfans, because for a while it was exclusively running through Colorado at night. The fact that the mountains in the paint job make the locomotive look like it has fangs most likely also has something to do with it as well.
