Varipulse Walkaround Throttle

Has anyone tried this throttle? I’m thinking of buying one but would like to know if it performs OK. Thanks in advance for your help.

Couldn’t even Google it. “Varipulse walkaround throttle” came up a complete goose egg. Do you have a link? I’d like to check it out myself. Thanks.[:D]

?
I see nothing about a throttle…

Sorry Jeff. The complete email address is:

I’m trying to decide between the Varipulse unit and the “Rover” made by GML Enterprises.

Thanks for the full link. I’m the one that should probably be sorry. You post a question, and instead of getting an answer, you end up helping me. But I do appreciate it. FWIW, it looks like a nice throttle to me (not that I know anything), and for 40 bucks I’d probably consider it if I needed one. Hopefully someone will eventually answer that has tried one. If nothing else, these posts keep returning the topic to the 1st page, exposing it to more readers (better chance of getting a reply).[:D]

I have bought 3 of these throttles and I love 'em! (I’m one of the old fossils still using DC). Momentum is variable and will make a Kato diesel (or any other decent brand)crawl so slowly you can hardly see it move. I found the first one on eBay and loved it; I eventually bought 2 more. I think they were around $50-$60 each. The guy’s name is Ken Stapleton, he lives in Ontario, Canada, and apparently he make throttles & all kinds of electronic stuff for model railroaders. The only “problem” I’ve encountered is that the cord tends to be a little short, depending on how far you need to move, but it’s 4-wire phone cord which can be lengthened or replaced fairly easily. The handheld unit is small and fits comfortably in your hand. Hook-up requires a power supply of course (good use for an old stationary transformer) and only takes a little while to finish. Everything you need is included except the power supply. Walkaround DC throttles seem to be rare; I highly recommend this one!

They now sell for $35 plus $6 (shipping in the US). He makes one throttle for HO/N and another one for Z. I appreciate your info Dave.
