Whats the intel dump on varney SW -1200 switchers? This locomotive ,would be a fine puller…but can’t seem to bring it back to life. I took it apart, cleaned the electrical system, cleaned the gears, cleaned the wheels, rewired it, oiled it ECT, ECT, ECT.
When I say I took it apart,I mean I took it apart, every last screw, wire, wheel ect.
I have the building instructions,so good to go there,I know I installed everything right.
What does it take to bring this classic locomotive to life ?
Hi
Make shure you got the wheels back in right. Insulated on opposite sides
Most commen mistake when wheels are removed. Check with A ohm meter
if you cant tell by looking Just A thought Roy
If you remove the magnet from an open frame motor it is possible to weaken the magnet. But I doubt that is the problem. Do you have an ammeter/voltmeter?
That would show if by some chance you have either a short or no current at all is reaching the motor.
Somehow I suspect there is no power getting to the motor from the frame. It is as indicated above easy to get the wheels mixed up so that you are not drawing current from both rails.
With the shell off, try touching the two poles of the motor with wires from power pack. If it moves then you know you have a problem with getting power to the motor.
Then it is a matter of touching one wire to a rail, another to the opposite pole on the motor

If you need a new pitman motor. Bowser still makes them if you are so incline. Just tell them what you have and I am sure they can get you hooked up with a proper model.
