Does any one have instructions for the Varney “Lil-Joe” dockside engine they would be willing to sell? I am also looking for the Central Valley or Kemtron valve gear kit. I purchased one from E-Bay and the rear steps have been broken off and I am afraid the frame has been bent. Are there any prototype plans available for it?
Dan Bush! If you are on here please get in touch.
Mapep,
While waiting for other answers, you may want to look at Bowser’s page for the Dockside;
http://www.bowser-trains.com/hoemrrs/dockside/dockside.htm
You might want to buy their frame as a way of replacing the rear steps. They do have a valve gear kit available. IIRC, the MR Locomotive Cyclopedia, Vol I, has plans for the Dockside, I’ll have to look. Decades ago plans used to be available from the B&O - they had some model railroaders working for them.

jrbarney,
Thank you for the response. Bowser, if they are still in Montoursville, PA, is about four hours east of me here in Kittanning, Pa. I will check out their web site. Many thanks for the help and sharing your knowledge.

Al,
Look at this thread from the Index of Magazines, it should cite most of the articles you’ll want:
http://index.mrmag.com/tm.exe?opt=S&cmdtext=B%26O+0-4-0T&MAG=ANY
The plan by Lewis Austin in the cited RMC Steam Locomotive Plan Manual and Album differs in some details from the B&O souvenir plans, but the other articles should compensate. You may have to order the articles from the NMRA’s Kalmbach Memorial Library.
